Evergreen Faces 2012

Rob Gell, environmentalist, encourages Victorians to get their ‘green face’ on.

Well known green campaigner and TV personality, Rob Gell, will be putting his mark on the judging of a photo competition featuring Seniors caring for their environment.

The Evergreen Faces Photography Competition is a flagship event of the Victorian Seniors Festival and this year’s theme is ‘Seniors for the Environment’. The event aims to celebrate older Victorians’ interest in the environment and sustainability.

The competition is now open and runs for the entire month of August. Entry is free and out of the hundreds of expected entries, 24 finalists will be chosen to be exhibited at Federation Square during the Seniors Festival during October 7 – 14.

People will be able to vote for their favourite photo, with the winning entrant receiving a trip for 2 to New Zealand courtesy of the 50+ educational travel specialists Odyssey Travel.

Rob Gell, Guest Judge

Rob is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an Inaugural Fellow of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. He is a coastal geomorphologist by training; he taught Environmental Science and Physical Geography at tertiary level, then for thirty one years presented television weather. In his professional life he works as an environmental and communications consultant and is a Director of World Wind Pty Ltd. He is a published author and a photographer.

Theme

This year’s theme is ‘Seniors for the Environment’, inviting people of all ages to submit photos that celebrate seniors taking an active role in creating a more environmentally sustainable planet. It could be anything from recycling, gardening, alternative energy or transport to tree planting, conservation activities and campaigning.

Entries open 1st August and close 31st August

Entry forms will be available from COTA Victoria, Australian Conservation Foundation and from participating local councils, or enter online at www.evergreenfaces.com.au

Exhibition

Finalists will be exhibited during the Victorian Seniors Festival, October 7-14 at Federation Square in the Atrium, in The Festival Hub at the Melbourne Town Hall and at participating local councils.
